The Reuse Centre

Our local ‘reuse centre‘ put out an advert on the volunteer network looking for someone to help them with publicity, I am pretty busy with work and the sites I am working on with Laurie, but its a great cause and they really need the help (as you can see from their website).

They got back to me right away and I have started working on a list of areas I want to target for their approval, mostly online (since they are an environmental group and really dont need to send out useless paper)  but also from our local TV station who have a roaming reporter in the mornings who visits local businesses and charities.  Eco week is coming up soon so hopefully if I can tie it in with that I can get them out – although I hate doing TV interviews so hopefully someone there wants to be on TV – there is usually someone who wants to be an actor who will beg for their minute of fame.

A Virtual Vacation

Over the many years I have been a member of TheCatSite.com, I have heard people talk of ‘the great vacation thread’ that was lost when the site crashed back in 2004, before I was a member.  I recently offered to organise a new one, given that people still mention the thread over 5 years later.

We have quite the schedule organised with stops in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Rhode Island, NYC and lots of other US states as well as Toronto, Niagara Falls, Vancouver and Montreal for Canada and England, Prague, Warsaw, Paris for Europe and a quick stopover in Isreal and Australia in between all of the other fun places.

Join us for the vacation, and sign up to TheCatSite to talk about your cats

Baked Chips – yum

In the hope of finding something slightly healthier but yummier than homemade zucchini chips, we recently tried Old Dutch Baked Chips, 3.5g fat compared to 14g in regular chips.  Having tried several brands of baked chips and finding them hard and dry or sprayed with fake oil, I didn’t expect much from these chips but OMG I love them – I would honestly choose them above regular chips.  They have a pringle-esque feel to them but are more substantial and a stronger flavour.

If you see them you have to try them!

Ghost Whisperer ~sad face~

I have a recent love of Ghost Whisperer, over the past few weeks of extra time, I have caught up on the previous seasons, it is definitely my new guilty pleasure, it makes me not want to go anywhere on a Friday night despite the fact that I can catch up from online episodes.

I am not a huge Jennifer Love Hewitt fan, but the role really suits here, its funny when I went looking for online episodes, I came across the reviews of it when it came out, some from 2005 etc and they all said it wouldn’t be long before it was cancelled.  I am glad it wasn’t – my new found free time has been filled in by several seasons of Ghjost Whisperer, one day I spent 7 hours watching it.

But with the Olympics recently and other sports coming up soon, there are loads of weeks where there are no episodes – since when did sports take preference over everything else scheduled – ARGH

Sherlock Holmes!

We just watched the Sherlock Holmes movie, I know, it has been out for a while, but we just got around to it.  I did not have high expectations, I never do when movies are based on books I have read, I guess I like the pictures in my head a lot more than the ones in the movies.

However I was pleasantly surprised when I really enjoyed the movie, Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr did a great job portraying Watson and Holmes  and I can’t wait for the sequel (rumour has it that it is already in the works).  The ending was a little obvious but what movie isnt these days, especially when you read lots of mystery/crime books.

They portray Holmes even crazier than I have thought of him, but it really suits him, and didn’t take away at all from the books I read when I was younger, although if they really are as messed up as the movie makes them appear, I am surprised that my parents let me read the books :)

I think we need to start going to the movies a lot more, we have a local cinema that shows movies really cheaply a couple of weeks after they come out in the main theatres, and we never get around to seeing them the week they come out anyway!  Tickets are only $5 and even cheaper on Tuesdays, and now I am not volunteering on Tuesdays I can take advantage of the cheaper tickets.

Yummy Candles

Matt just brought home some candles, I guess a customer gave them to him or something, but they are absolutely scrumptious.  They are French Vanilla Glade Candles, not quite the Clean Cotton Yankee Candles I usually use at home but much cheaper and easier to find up here North of the border and the warm scent is delicious – and looking online they do have a clean linen which I assume would be like the Yankee Candle I buy.  They are smaller and in frosted glass jars so they are less obvious than the big Yankee Candles but they also seem to attract the cats more too – thankfully no burning whiskers yet!

I think I will have to go buy more, but they make me a little hungry they smell so good!
