Tales of Tech Love & Woe

Futureshop have an amazing Facebook App promo where you can earn Futureshop Gift Cards for doing tasks.  Join up on their facebook page here

One of the tasks (for an amazing 3 points each which will get you a $5 Gift Card) is to tell your tale of tech woe and tech love, so here are my stories.

My Tech Woe story is a horrible one, and one that always reminds me when travelling to use a converter – yes, I plugged a US computer in when I was in the UK without changing over the power supply to 240v and fried the computer (sparks, smoke the lot – I am not sure who was more upset, me at frying the computer or my mum at me making the place smell like smoke LOL).  At least it was just a spare I was taking to leave there for her to email me .  I must say it did remind me of my science kit days when I enjoyed blowing stuff up.  That green stain from my first science kit lasted through 3 coats of white paint on my ceiling.

I have so much tech love, it is hard to choose, but my favourite would probably be my Fuji camera, I am hoping to upgrade to a dSLR but the Fuji takes amazing pictures and I used it to take photos of shelter animals and so often someone would come into the shelter and say ‘I saw Mitten’s (or whoever) picture and I must have her’ so it is probably more special than any of the other electronics I have.  That being said, I couldn’t live without all the others either.

My Shoppers Drug Mart Redemption

I usually use my redemptions to buy stuff I want buy am not crazy enough to pay for, or to treat myself to new makeup/perfume but this time I decided they had some great grocery deals that I could stock up on as well as a few bits we needed.

MultiBionta BzzKit Arrived

Multibionta BzzKit from BzzAgent.com

Multibionta BzzKit from BzzAgent.com

Well, it arrived last week and I have been lazy in updating (and it took me a few days to go and get it from the post office because my mailman is lazy and left a note saying I wasn’t here when I was ~shakes fist at Canada Post~).  This is an amazing package from Multibionta & BzzAgent worth $330 with the coupons!

1x 30 caplet Multibionta Adult

1x 30 caplet Multibionta Senior

10 x coupons for free Multibionta Adult or Senior (30 caps)

10 x coupons for $15 off Multibionta Adult or Senior (60 caps) – reg price $22.49-$25.99

There is also a $10 off coupon for the 30 caplet bottles in April’s Chatelaine magazine

A good weekend for deals

DSCF7818The new Toonies for Tummies coupons came out this week so I popped into Longo’s last night to check and see which ones they had (and they had most of them woohoo) but even better were some of the deals.

Cat Chow Weight Management, which admittedly I would not feed my own cats, was on sale for $2.94.  It is usually $6-7 per bag so this is a steal for the feral cats.  I dont think they need to be on a diet, especially in winter, but hey, its better than not eating.  I picked up 4 bags last night and another 6 today using $2 off coupons on each.  Cat food for under $1!

Then, while browsing, I noticed Kraft Sizzling Salads were on clearance for $1.94, they are $3.99 everywhere so I haven’t really looked at them, there are better deals out there (although $2 per bottle for a cooking sauce and salad dressing is not bad).  But with the $2 coupons, they were free.  In fact Longo’s paid me $0.06 to take them.  Can’t say no to being paid to take items from a store.

So:

  • Cat Chow $2.94 x 10 = $29.40 – $20.00 coupons = $9.40 ($13.20 including taxes)
  • Kraft Sizzling Salads $1.94 x 10 = $19.40 – $20.00 = $0.60 made (no taxes)
  • So 10 bags of cat food and 10 salad kits for $8.80 (12.60 inc taxes)

January Savings

reportI didn’t do any major stocking up in January, so this is mostly groceries.  I am getting back into the habit of tracking everything rather than just coupon shopping.  I notice a lot of people use the same tracker and have a coupon on every item but unless that is all junk they are eating, I don’t think it really shows savings.

  • Regular Prices: $1,283.16
  • Shelf Prices: $702.02
  • Coupons: $225.51
  • Discounts: $41.64 (SPC / $5 off WUS $x etc)
  • Paid $434.87

I have also redeemed for

  • $35 Amazon gift certificates ($25 Amazon.ca and $10 Amazon.com) from Swagbucks
  • $15 Amazon.ca gift certificates from TNS

After not being paid for December searches using the Airmiles toolbar, I have decided to uninstall it, there was no reply to my complaint about that either.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch?

Ummm yes there is (although it may turn into a free dinner, but I am free to use it for lunch if I want)!

waggiftBefore Christmas, WagJag offered people who had liked their facebook page the opportunity to ‘choose a gift’.  Each gift contained a random gift certificate between $5 and $20.  I won $10 and my BF won $20 (and yes, he teased me about winning more than me).  joedogsI have been checking WagJag periodically looking for something we will actually use  (because free is no good if you don’t use it) and I noticed that a local restaurant, Joe Dogs, had a WagJag for $20 of food for $10.

I absolutely love their Crazy Chicken (chicken breast cooked in a honey dijon cream sauce and mozzarella) so it was definitely gift certificate worthy.  The deal closes in a couple of days and I intend on using my free meal ticket very soon.

$1 a day can make a huge difference!

soupI mean really, I spend more than that at Tim Hortons in a week (and if I go to Starbucks, I spend it in one visit!)

$5.50 is all it took to buy all of this food for the food bank (plus I got HBC Rewards points)

  • 14 x Knorr Sidekicks @ $0.99 – 10% SPC discount – $1 WUB2 = $0.39 each ($5.46 total)
  • 24 x Campbells Soups @ $0.50 – 10% SPC discount – $1 WUB2 = $0.05 made on each one ($1.20 made total)
  • 4 x cans tuna on sale @ $0.35 – 10% SPC discount (no coupon) = $0.32 each ($1.26 total)

With the money made on the soup, all this came to $5.52 (my third full case of free soup dropped off to different food banks and I bought 10 SideKicks before Xmas too)

I have a secret…

secretsa chocolately caramel secret

Caramilk were giving away 5000 bags of their new ‘Caramilk Secrets’ on their facebook page and I was lucky enough to snag a bag before they were all gone.

They arrived today and are yummy (as you would expect from Caramilk) and came with a coupon for $1 off if you buy two cadbury snack bags (buttons, raisins, peanuts or clusters included and I love buttons too!)

No bills in the mail, just chocolate and coupons – what a great day!

My FREE Christmas present to myself

@Swagbucksmonitor

I was waiting for a Boxing Day Sale to buy a new monitor, the colour on my old one is getting dark.  When adding the ones I liked to my Amazon wishlist so I could easily check prices today, I came across this one on sale.  $149.99 down to $99.99.  Amazon’s sale prices can be overly inflated so I checked quickly online and the cheapest was $119 plus $12 shipping so I bought the last one on Amazon using my giftcards from Swagbucks.  I chose the free supersaving shipping and it still shipped UPS same day (why pay for express when they always send it express anyway) so I should have it Wednesday when UPS is back at work!

I also got a new MP3 player for M while I was ordering and after taxed, spent $149 and still have $55 left to spend with $40 coming next month from swagbucks and survey companies.
