Minus $25 Kijiji Gift Certificate and $3.65 left in my account from a previous gift certificate order (GC from survey company so free) and I paid $2.74 out of pocket plus I used Great Canadian Rebates, at a rate of 3.5% cashback = $1.09 back leaving a final cost of $1.65

$25 Chapters Gift Card for Nothing?

A while back, I wrote about Testing Zoompass for Bzzagent, the prepaid credit card they sent me arrived a while ago and has been sitting in my wallet unused until today.

Kijiji’s Daily Deal for Toronto is a $25 GC to Chapters / Indigo / Coles for just $10.  I am out of books and not even the 25% off coupon received in the Globe & Mail on the weekend has made me make a trip to the book store so I really need to go.   Coincidentally, the Zoompass deal was for $10 off free money – so I bought it using that.

Combined with my 25% savings card, I should be able to get a decent amount of books (or something fun) from Chapters to maximise my savings!

Burnbrae Egg Creations – Review

Eggs

From Flickr

I am not a huge egg eater, I mainly use them for baking but M can go through a pack of 12 eggs in one weekend.  While he does not worry about his weight, the fat and cholesterol in the amount of eggs he eats just can’t be good for you.  On top of that, he seems to find it impossible to rinse the egg shells and throw them in the garbage.  I am forever finding a sink full of eggshells.

As I mentioned in my post on the weekend, I got Braeburn Egg Creations for free at No Frills using coupons.

eggcreatEggs Creations Original is made from real egg whites and other ingredients to provide a full accompaniment of important vitamins and minerals. This product can be used not only on its own in making many of your favourite egg dishes but also in any of your cooking or baking recipes where whole egg is called for.

They also come in three other flavours, Cheese & Chives, Garden Vegetable or Southwest, but given that we rarely use those mixtures with eggs, I just got the original as it would be the most versatile.  I haven’t tried microwaving them, but their website says that they microwave fine for a scramble like egg dish.

We both had French Toast using them and M had scrambled eggs using them and while I could not tell the difference in the French Toast, he says he could in the scramble (it could be something to do with how wary he was of them to begin with, but she still said they tasted decent just not the same).  Since he easily eats 6 eggs at a time, I could not be happier that he will eat these given the non-existent levels of fat and cholesterol in them compared to real eggs (see chart below).   I will have to try baking with them, I am a little more wary of using them in a recipe that does call for whole eggs but in all, they are decent.

Amazon, is it worth it?

Amazon.ca is usually overpriced compared to other online retailers and I often see people on Swagbucks‘ Facebook Wall asking if it is worth it since the price is more.  You can collect $5 Paypal payments at 700 SBs each but unlike the Amazon cards, where a $5 card is 450SBs, you can’t buy $25 or $50 cards when you have reached your maximum limit for the month.

So to me, its better to spend the little extra on something you are essentially getting for free (and if your time is that valuable, spend it working and not on Swagbucks!) and use Amazon where you can get more stuff than to save for ages to get the Paypal money, spending more of your swagbucks and months longer to save.

Amazon Delays

Using the Amazon.ca Gift Cards I ordered with my swagbucks, I pre-ordered Sims 3 for Wii a few weeks ago, it was supposed to be mailed on Wednesday but I got home to an email saying it was delayed until at least mid December.

Not happy so I have cancelled my order but now I feel the need to spend those gift cards since they were gone anyway but can’t find anything I want enough to spend them on so I am thinking of waiting for the next batch to come in at the beginning of December and get a new monitor so M can have this one, since he still has one of those big ones instead of a flat screen.

But ~sad face~ Amazon & Sims!!

Thanks Canada Talk Now!

Canada Talk Now is a survey company I am a member of and they recently tweeted the results of one of their polls, that in early November it is just too early for all the Christmas stuff. I know I am a grinch and I just do not want to think about Christmas until December even though I have to get cards to the UK in time for Christmas lol

The poll results can be read here (pdf): http://www.itracks.com/images/stories/TNP_Christmas.pdf

I retweeted it and received a cute little thank you gift from them yesterday (probably the only good thing about yesterday, which started off with the fire alarm going off at 5:30 am, got oh so much better with trains being late both ways and thick fog and an audit at work)

These cute little postits are now stuck on the side of my monitor :)

GO QUINCY!

I am sure I have bored you enough with Quincy’s contest, I was so happy when I kept him in the top 10 when the contest ended late Monday night, after a little confusion after the contest finished early and needed to be fixed and then disappointed as I read a tweet was sent saying they would announce the top 5 cats.  Luckily, it meant they would narrow it down to 5 from the 10.  So we waited eagerly through the 48 hours it was supposed to take to announce the finalists, with Global Pet Foods updating us daily that they were verifying the results to ensure all of the animals in the top 10 had properly qualified as there had been many reports of cheating.

Yesterday, as I was sitting on the GO train coming home from Toronto, the results were finally announced, and Quincy had moved up to 4th place from the 7th place he finished in.  Needless to say I squealed out loud on the train and everyone thinks I am a nutcase and moved away from where I was sitting.  Hey maybe that means they will move in the future and I will always get a seat on the train!

They are updating us on Monday on the next round of the contest, not sure how long it will take to get the results but we could be the proud owners of a new Honda Insight or get a year’s supply of free cat food so I am very very excited.  Quincy, however, has made it very clear he doesn’t care about me winning a car, all he cares about is ripping my newspaper to pieces and running away from me so I don’t hug him again.
