August Challenge
As I mentioned in the July Challenge, we were going to track our spending on food in advance of the August Challenge which would be living on a certain budget for food.
Living on $1 each per day, like the blogger who inspired this challenge just is not possible given our different couponing system and grocery prices in Ontario, but we are hoping to spend as little as possible over August. The exact amount of the budget will be determined before the challenge starts but I think we need more than 3 days to see what we are spending and where cuts can be made to still eat the same types of meals.
We are also going to try at least 1 new recipe per week during the challenge, I have been hunting for budget recipes on the web, and honestly I am shocked that people think that $10 for dinner is budget (without drinks & dessert, just an entree cost, its very rare for us to spend that on dinner at home anyway).
Unlike the blogger, we have quite the stockpile of herbs etc which I have been trying to include in our costings, but they are total guestimates so I am going to do some price researching over July to get prices for those pantry staples we already have as just grocery costs will not be a true indicator of spending (we could probably buy basics and live on the stockpile for a while reducing costs) so I have been working out a per meal cost rather than just grocery spending.
So hopefully this will serve as a main index of cheap recipe sites, a post on the cost of basic serving sizes of products I use and the day by day posts over August.
